Zanita Muir's HISTORY OF YOSEMITE
told in the words of the people who lived it

This site is dedicated to Shirley Sargent, Yosemite historian extraordinaire

I grew up just over the mountain from Yosemite in Tuolumne County and have always loved the park. Although I now live on the Northern California coast in Humboldt County (it's damn hard to SCUBA dive in Yosemite), I am still active in the fight to protect Yosemite and other natural lands like it and visit the park every year (sometimes twice - once in the summer and once in the winter to cross-country ski.)
At this site I intend to present the history of Yosemite, told in the words of those who lived it. In some cases these will be public domain history books that I will post in their entirety as they're ready. In some cases I'll collect quotes from various sources, always credited.
If you would like to get involved in environmental protection try the Sierra Club Home Page link. Your small annual membership fee alone will help out significantly, and if you have the time to become involved in your local chapter every moment means a lot. We can make a difference. If you have an evironmental website you'd like me to add to this hubsite, send me a note with the URL.
